XR Hammersmith & Fulham Weekly Meeting
Telling the truth means that this next term of parliament will probably be THE parliament that helps seal humanity’s fate. We stand at the ultimate cross-roads.
We feel our despair, our grief and still our active hope and determination to be the generation that chooses life and love before anything else.
Our rebellion is action born of a moral and ethical choice to withdraw our consent for; harm, separation and powerlessness. Our current political system is not only permitting harm, it now threatens to collude with and agree to our mass suicide.
The science is simple. It suggests we are at the beginning of the sixth mass extinction event, the Anthropocene.
We only have time for a total and urgent transformation of the systems that keep us alive and well; food, energy, water, health, education, transport and housing.
These systems, without the threat of climate disaster, are already either extremely vulnerable or unhealthy. Our children are suffering a mental health crisis. Respiratory diseases and cancer rates are rising every year with loneliness being as big a killer as obesity. The ‘cost’ of living is unaffordable for so many. Where is real human progress?
We rely on nature to sustain us and yet we are destroying our woodlands, wetlands, rivers, bird and insect life. Expansion of our concrete jungles, our roads and railways for increasing economic growth is overstretching our natural boundaries to breaking point.
Nature is dying at exponential levels. Natural life is in collapse. Collapsing eco-systems signals human collapse.
This General Election we are asking our politicians and our democracy to Tell The Truth and own their current responsibility. It’s now or never. Today, as never before, politics needs to inspire our unity and our brilliance. We will only survive this planetary emergency together.
We are facing a man-made disaster on a global scale.
Once climate change becomes a defining issue for financial stability, it may already be too late.
I am firmly of the view that the next 18 months will decide our ability to keep climate change to survivable levels
If we can save the banks, we can save the world.
The future of the human race is now at stake.
